“You Cannot Serve God and Wealth”

The Methodist Church Accra Diocese on Sunday, September 21, 2025, held a special thanksgiving service at the Bethel Methodist Chapel, Kokomlemle, to honour Bro. Joseph Eduam, the outgoing Diocesan Lay Chairman, for his dedicated service to the Church and community.

Delivering the sermon on the theme “You Cannot Serve God and Wealth” (Luke 16:13), Bro. Eduam shared a moving testimony of resilience and faith. He recounted how he lost his father as an infant, worked tirelessly to finance his education, and overcame numerous trials — including losing his job after a robbery incident.

He further disclosed that the National Labour Commission, in a ruling on May 27, 2025, declared his dismissal unfair and ordered compensation.

Bro. Eduam highlighted that while wealth itself is not evil, the pursuit of riches at the expense of devotion to God leads to spiritual compromise. He urged believers to use their resources in ways that honor God through service, generosity, and community impact reminding them that true riches are found in Christ.

Drawing lessons from his journey, he underscored stewardship, faithfulness, service to God, prayer, and fasting as vital Christian virtues that sustain believers in times of trial.

As an expression of gratitude, Bro. Eduam donated a total of GHS 15,000, contributing GHS 5,000 each to Kokomlemle Bethel, Enyan-Maim, and the Diocesan AMB. His generosity, he said, was a way of giving back to the Church that had nurtured him.

The thanksgiving service was marked by tributes, music, and presentations from various Circuits and Organizations within the Diocese, all recognizing Bro. Eduam’s steadfast commitment and impactful leadership during his tenure.

The event not only celebrated his service but also served as a reminder of the call to faithful stewardship and unwavering devotion to God amidst life’s challenges.
