WHY THE YOUTH MUST ARISE: PREPARING THE NEXT GENERATION

Then, what once felt distant began to draw near: the neonate became a toddler, the toddler a child, the child an adolescent, the adolescent a young adult, and so life unfolded. Suddenly, it dawned on me: time is not just slipping away from the individual but from the Church as well. The next generation is not waiting in the wings; they are already here, and if we do not rise to prepare them, we risk silencing a future that was meant to speak with power.

The strong hands that once tilled the land, the firm yet gentle hands that nurtured, the breasts that nursed, the voices that sang, and the feet that stood firm as pillars to guide the young in God’s mission are slowly passing the torch. Not because they strayed or lost vision, but because the unchanging law of time is catching up with them without any exception for us.

The gaps must be filled. Those running ahead cannot do so forever. The baton must be passed on, and we must be prepared to take it up with equal, if not greater, zeal. We cannot ignore the reality of life’s seasons and assume continuity will happen by chance or some “magical” turn of fate. The youth must rise to the times and the seasons. We must train, and we must prepare for the future.

Like in Joshua 1, Moses will not be with us forever. The Joshuas of today must be teachable, obedient, and prepared to answer the call, to step in when the gap opens, to carry forward what was begun, to lead God’s people across into their promise. The purposes of God must not stall in our hands. Never!

We cannot allow what happened in Judges 2:10 to repeat in our generation. That another generation would arise after us that neither knew the Lord nor remembered His mighty works. Like Joseph in the house of Potiphar, a generation arose that did not know the Lord God of Israel, which led to the genesis of the Israelites’ pains. God’s work must transcend generations. Posterity must be equipped to carry the torch. That demands preparation, training, and obedience until the Master returns.

What once felt distant is now at the door. The labour in God’s vineyard continues. The time for passivity has ended. Are we prepared to take up the mantle? We must rise, act, and shine! In your small way, keep the flame of Christ burning bright; this generation is counting on it.

Let us commit ourselves to learning from the fathers, to growth, and purposeful living. Let us arise and build to the glory of our God and for the sake of generations yet unborn.
