An 18-member delegation led by Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, former Minister of Youth and Sports, paid a courtesy call on Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Wednesday, June 12, 2025, at the Church House in Accra.
The purpose of the visit was to formally inform the church leadership about the upcoming National Day of Prayer proposed by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for July 1, 2025.

During the meeting, Hon. Afriyie Ankrah explained that the National Day of Prayer is envisioned as a moment of national thanksgiving to God. The event will feature interfaith activities, including Christian prayers at the forecourt of the State House and Muslim prayers at the Kanda Mosque, to foster unity and spiritual reflection across the country. He emphasized that the former president believes prayer has a critical role in guiding the nation forward, especially during challenging times.
In response, Rt. Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed strong support for the initiative. He pledged the backing of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to intercede for the nation, its leaders, and the success of the event. He described the proposed Day of Prayer as a significant spiritual exercise that aligns with the Church’s mission of promoting national peace and unity through prayer.
Also present at the meeting were senior officials of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, including Rev. Andrew J. T. Odjawo, Director of Ecumenical and Social Relations; Rev. Joshua Bossman Ohene, Director of Church Life and Nurture; and Mrs. Rebecca Teiko Sabah, Director of Development and Social Services. Their presence underscored the Church’s readiness to collaborate with national leaders on matters of spiritual and social importance.
The visit forms part of a series of engagements with religious bodies across the country to build broad-based support for the National Day of Prayer. Organizers hope that the July 1 event will serve as a rallying point for all Ghanaians to come together in thanksgiving and intercession for the future of the nation.
