The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God (AG) Ghana, Rev. Dr. Stephen Wengam, has expressed concern over the moral decline among some pastors and church leaders in the country.
In a continuation of the sermon series dubbed “Intimacy with the Holy Spirit” at Cedar Mountain Assemblies of God in Accra, Rev. Wengam lamented that certain individuals who are supposed to be spiritual leaders have strayed from the Holy Spirit and fallen into sinful practices.
“There are many like Samson — great men of God, holy men of God — yet they stoop so low, sleeping with prostitutes at places like Atemuda, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and the Togo Embassy area,” he said.
He warned that such actions come with grave consequences:
“Let us consider the repercussions, the implications, the collateral damage this has brought to us. The Lord is watching you. No sin can be hidden forever. Eventually, your wife will know, your husband will know.”
Rev. Wengam emphasized that yielding to sin is a result of lacking the power of the Holy Spirit. He therefore called on Christians to seek God’s presence and power as the only way to resist temptation.
“When you engage in sex before marriage, it is a sin,” he reminded the congregation, urging believers to remain steadfast in holiness.
Bringing his message to a close, Rev. Wengam encouraged the faithful to embrace a life of intimacy with the Holy Spirit, stressing that it is only through constant communion with God through the Holy Spirit that believers can overcome the pressures of sin and stand firm in righteousness.
